Hat Parade Season

It's Easter and that means one thing...hat parade season! Miss B and I have combed Pinterest for inspiration, been to the craft shop to stock up and spent some of our weekend cutting and gluing. Master B also put in his two cents worth as he is of course too old for hat parades now but he likes to supervise the all important hat making.

This year Miss B has gone for the 'Less is Best' approach and she is very pleased with the results.

This is last years effort which still had pride of place on top of her shelves in her bedroom....

and this is my all time favourite picture of Miss B at her first ever Easter Hat Parade at preschool.

I am feeling a little nostalgic because after about 6 years, this will be the last year I have a child taking part in a hat parade. Although I have been known to curse these parades I will be a little sad at about 2.30 this Thursday afternoon as it is just another little reminder that my babies are growing up fast.

Are you busily fighting with the hot glue gun and cotton wool balls in preparation for a hat parade this week? What makes you realise time is passing?

Happy Easter xx

Grateful...for those little reminders

I have been following Fat Mum Slim's Photo a Day Challenge for twelve months now and it has been fun. I love taking photos and I find it sometimes helps to remind me to enjoy the everyday things in life, those little things that happen around me all the time.

Today's prompt was a hard one for me. 'What you do for fun'.. I was really stuck! Do I have fun? What is it that I call fun? Surely there is something I find fun....?

I am grateful for this little reminder that I do have fun and I often have fun every day! After much deliberation this is what I shared

Day 23. what I do for fun | making, reading, on line shopping,
spending time with my family

What do you do for fun?

Hop to it!

With Easter just around the corner I thought I had better hop to it and get in the mood.

I must admit it has crept up on me this year as I have only just cracked my first Red Tulip caramel egg! My next most favourite thing about this time of the year is the hot cross buns. While I was researching recipes I came across one for Hot Cross Muffins. What better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, especially as I have been procrastinating about the usual weekend tasks...?

This is what my little kitchen helper and I did.

Ingredients:

1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup cubed butter
1/4 cup orange juice and some orange zest
1/2 cup sultanas or raisins
1/2 cup milk or yoghurt
1 egg
2 cups self raising flour
1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon
1 teaspoon mixed spice

Method:

1. In a bowl sift together the flour and spices

2. Melt butter with sugar, orange juice, zest and fruit over a low heat

3. Whisk the milk and eggs into the butter mixture and then stir, gently, into the flour mixture

4. Spoon into muffin cases and bake at 180 C for 15 minutes

5. When cool make the cross with melted white chocolate or white icing

(Makes 12-15 muffins)

Warning: I did have to barricade the kitchen to let them cool enough and get a cross on them before they were snapped up. Delicious!

Hope you are having a creative and relaxing weekend too.

Mermaids on parade

Recently the local YMCA took over the Aquatic Centre and they have added Aqua Fit classes to what they have on offer...I LOVE it!

I have tried various gym classes but I am hopeless! The whole class goes left and I go right. The whole class jogs on the spot while I am still star jumping my little heart out. The whole class moves as one while I get in quite a tangle....well I am sure you are getting the picture!

This week I am grateful for aqua fit and this is why...
  • I have a whole hour to myself and it's all about me
  • I can't fall over
  • I am exercising (and laughing) with friends
  • No one can see that I am coordinationally challenged
  • It does not matter if it is still over 30 degrees at 6.30pm or it is 70% humidity and only the kind of weather fools go walking in!
and above all else...
  • It is FUN!!!

What has made you feel grateful this week? I hope it has been a good one.
