Bush Birthday Celebrations

I only have two nephews. They are cousins, born two years apart and by pure chance their birthdays are on the same day!

I share a birthday with a cousin and joint birthday parties growing up were the best. We were lucky enough to be invited to join in the bush birthday celebrations on the weekend and what better excuse to pull the boots out of the cupboard, leave behind the weekend sporting schedule and head out of town.

This was the perfect weather for roasting marshmallows in the great outdoors and a great way to celebrate a couple of special birthdays!

Night at the Museum

Have you ever felt like you were being watched while you were eating dinner?

I have!

I was lucky enough to be part of a special birthday party recently that was held in the World Mammals gallery of the South Australian Museum. We ate under the gaze of
animals from the regions of Eurasia, Tropical Asia, Africa and the Americas including Miss Siam, an Indian elephant who is over 100 years old. She lived at the Adelaide Zoo and died in 1904.

It is something really special to be taken on a torch lit guided tour of part of the museum and to then mingle with family and some very old world mammals to enjoy drinks and dinner.

It was certainly a night to remember.

Christmas With Us

Christmas dawned early and bright here, with much excitement and joy. This was also mixed with a croissant breakfast and food preparation for the feasting before the family and friends arrived.

We laughed, shared, ate, drank, played with new toys, danced, sang, created memories and remembered those not with us this year.

Flour, eggs and a little sparkle

The rhythm of the house has changed this week. Master B is far, far away, on a school excursion so Miss B is Queen of the house for the week.

One of Queen B's favourite pass times is baking so today she took advantage of her Mother-in-waiting's full attention and she indulged...

Is there anyone in your house who has a passion for baking? I am definitely going to nurture this interest as I fully encourage and support the baking (and eating) of cake!

This time of the year...

I love this time of the year. Autumn, Easter, beautiful sunlight but crisp air in the morning and evening, chocolate, camping weather...I could go on!

I feel like baking. I feel like planting pumpkins in anticipation of a good soup. I feel like afternoon cups of tea on the verandah. I feel like getting my crochet hook into a project.

I did get to indulge in a few of these things on the weekend, camping with my family.

Fete Fun

Don't you agree that there is nothing like a school fete!

Parents work for months organising stalls and helpers, food and entertainment. People pot up plants and strike succulents. There is baking for the cake stall. Lolly necklaces and bracelets are made. Teachers organise art work to be displayed and activities to entertain.

Art gallery...we are the proud owners of two masterpieces!

The whole school community comes together for one evening of community spirit, hot donuts, fun, face painting and toffees.

Our school community came together this week to do just this and it was a fabulous evening out. The children came and went as they spent our change with gay abandon while we talked to friends and teachers while eyeing off the cake stall and the second hand books.
